Remote backend developer in India for startups and product teams

I build and maintain Node.js and TypeScript backends for teams across India — Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad and beyond — working remotely in IST with written, async-friendly communication.

Why me

A backend developer who works well remotely

Remote backend work succeeds or fails on communication as much as code.

Over 3+ years I've shipped REST APIs, data models, authentication, payment flows and reporting for booking, billing, donation, inventory and e-commerce products. The common thread: systems that real staff and customers use every day, where a bad deploy is noticed immediately.

Working with a team in another city works best when everything important is written down. I keep API contracts documented, pull requests small and explained, and progress visible — so you don't need a daily call to know where things stand.

  • Full IST overlap

Same working hours as your team, wherever in India you are — no waiting overnight for answers.

  • Async-friendly by habit

Clear PR descriptions, written decisions and documented endpoints that make reviews quick and onboarding easy.

  • Indian payments and invoicing

Razorpay integrations, GST-aware billing and PDF invoices — the details Indian products need.

  • Fits into your workflow

Your Git flow, your code review, your tracker, your CI — I adapt to how your team already works.

Services

Backend services for teams across India

Whether you need a whole backend or an extra pair of hands on an existing one.

  • APIs for web and mobile apps

REST APIs with authentication, role-based access, pagination and consistent errors that frontend and app developers can rely on.

  • MVP backends for startups

A pragmatic Node.js and TypeScript backend that gets you to launch quickly without boxing you in as you grow.

  • Refactoring and TypeScript migration

Gradually moving a JavaScript codebase to TypeScript, untangling modules and adding the structure needed to keep shipping.

  • Payments, email and documents

Razorpay and international gateways, transactional email via providers like MailGun, PDF invoices and receipts.

  • Database design and optimisation

PostgreSQL, MongoDB or MySQL schemas, indexes and queries tuned for the reports and screens that actually get used.

  • Containerised deployments

Dockerised services and production-ready configuration so environments behave the same everywhere.

Process

How remote engagements work

A predictable rhythm, minimal meetings, everything in writing.

  1. 01

    Discovery call

A 30–45 minute video call to understand the product, the current codebase and what success looks like.

  2. 02

    Access and onboarding

Repository, environments and tracker access; I read the code and share early observations in writing.

  3. 03

    Ship in small pull requests

Regular, reviewable PRs with tests where they matter and notes on anything that changes behaviour.

  4. 04

    Weekly written update

What shipped, what's next and any decisions you need to make — readable in two minutes.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you work fully remotely?
Yes. I work with teams across India remotely, in IST, using whatever tools you already use — Slack, Google Meet, GitHub, Jira, Linear or similar.
Are you open to full-time remote backend roles?
Yes. I'm open to freelance, contract and full-time backend or full-stack roles. Send the role details and I'll reply within one business day.
Can you join an existing codebase and team?
Yes. Most of my work involves extending live systems. I follow your conventions, branching strategy and review process rather than imposing mine.
Can you build the backend for our mobile app?
Yes. A well-documented REST API with token-based authentication works the same for Android, iOS and web clients.
What's your approach to tests and code quality?
TypeScript types, input validation and tests around the parts that are risky to break — payments, permissions, money and stock calculations — rather than chasing a coverage number.
